Kaslo at a Glance
Incorporated in 1893 as the first community on the shores of Kootenay Lake, Kaslo
is a flashback to the past, with its tree-lined streets and stately Victorian
buildings. Situated between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains, this former sawmill
town boasts spectacular views of the surrounding alpine peaks and picturesque
lake. Winter and summer activities abound, from skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling
in the winter, to fishing, boating, hiking, golfing and camping in the summer.
Visitors to Kaslo can also explore the town's rich history. The S.S.
Moyie is the world's oldest surviving sternwheeler, having cruised Lake Kootenay
for over 60 years. It has now been restored and is a popular attraction. An array
of summer festivals and special events, such as the Kaslo
Jazz Festival and the Model Boat Regatta, also attract visitors from far and
wide to this small alpine community.
